VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Don’t just cheer, be a volunteer!  VDMFA would not function without a dedicated group of volunteers who help with running the programs, managing the teams, coaching the kids, or simply helping on game days.

VDMFA is always looking for assistance to support and grow minor football in our community.  To help us keep participation costs low, it is crucial that we get support from all our members. VDMFA’ s success is directly related to the number of volunteers and volunteer hours we get from our membership. There are many opportunities to volunteer each season, such as:

  • Board of Directors
  • Head Coach/Assistant Coach
  • Trainer/First Aid
  • Team Trainer
  • Team Manager
  • Game Commissioner
  • Stick Crew
  • Fundraising or Registration Events

On game days, during both flag and tackle seasons, there are volunteer jobs that parents and caregivers can help with such as field set up and take down, clean up, commissioner/play counter, and stick crew.

COACHING

MENTOR AND COACH WITH VDMFA

As of March 31, 2017, Football Canada has mandated that all member coaches must be Safe Contact trained in the latest safe blocking and tackling techniques in order to step out onto the field. The requirement applies to any coach of an amateur team or club under Football Canada’s umbrella. Football Canada’s National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP), Safe Contact course teaches safe tackling techniques that emphasize making contact with the chest and front shoulder and not the head. It emphasizes a blocking technique that stresses making primary contact with the hands.
