VDMFA

Building character, community, and health for kids in the North Okanagan.

Our programs are intended to not only teach the rules and skills of football, but to help develop life skills such as sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, positivity, and physical activity as keys to success throughout life.

Keeping kids in our community active since 1987!

MEET THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Andy Stefansson

Marcy Kennedy

Vice-President

I have always loved football. In 2011 I became an active volunteer with my son's community football program in Alberta. After moving to Vernon in 2014, I became the team mom/manager for 2 seasons with Seaton. I am very excited to start working with VDMFA. I have seen what amazing things football has done for my son, and many other youth in our community. My goal this season is to give our North Okanagan youth the opportunity to play and learn to love football as much as I do. "Football has a place for everyone, making it one of the top sports for all youth. Big, small, fast, not so fast, male or female."

Heidi Astin

Treasurer

I love being involved with VDMFA. I have seen my two older boys, one graduated and one graduating this year, become the boys they are because of their passion for playing football and the values and respect they have gained from the coaching. One played for the Kamloops Broncos last year and the other has a scholarship to play football with the Calgary Dinos this year. I have been involved with VDMFA for 12 years now; including, being on the board for 5 terms a few years ago. I am excited to be back on the board and to see my 8-year-old now play football and gain the love his brothers have for the sport. It is a great activity for our children of Vernon that teaches them so many life skills. I strive to help VDMFA become the association that successfully keeps children active and support their love of the sport.

Leah Andrist

Secretary

After watching my son, Taylor, play football with VDMFA for many years, I grew to love football and its impact on the youth of our community. During Taylor's many seasons of football, I saw him grow through the program and his coaches. Now, I am looking forward to donating almost all of my free time to give back to the program.

Mindy & Chris Burke

Flag Football Coordinator

My love for community football started with minor football in grade 4 and playing 9 seasons before graduation from high school (in Ontario). Since then, I have coached 3 seasons of tackle and flag football in Vernon.

Media Coordinator

I have learned a lot about football from Chris, his enthusiasm is contagious. After attending every practice and game I will be Chris' assistant coach for flag football this season.

Ron Kirschner

Kimberly Furmanek

I am a Magnum's mom who decided to become a part of the board after seeing the positive impact football had on my two sons. I would like to see as many youth as possible benefit from this great program! Please talk to me about how you can get involved with our many fundraising and sponsorship initiatives for this year!

Equipment Manager

Teena Robinson

Fields & Venues Coordinator

I got involved with VDMFA because my son absolutely loves it. He loves it more than any other sport he’s tried before and it’s so wonderful to see this passion in him. I knew after our first season that we were going to be in this for the long haul so I wanted to be a part of something he loves so much. Last season the amazing coaches instilled a family atmosphere where every kid mattered and being part of a football family was really special. I’m looking forward to being part of the all work that goes on behind the scenes so that the kids can just focus on the game and having fun!
